WHERE TO EAT

On the corner of Hermannstraße and Columbiadamm lies a tasty, little coffee shop. This hip and friendly place is perfect for a relaxing, weekend brunch, or for a quick pastry and shot of espresso before a day’s adventure. With a passion for sustainable food practices, you can alway feel good about eating at Isla’s.

Located in Kreuzberg, Markthalle Neun is a unique experience you will not want to miss. Find every type of cuisine imaginable from llgäu cheese spaetzle to Nigerian FuFu and everything in between. This place is perfect for anyone with a taste for the eccentric.

Looking for a traditional German dinner? You cannot go wrong with Prater Garten! This place has some serious history. Established in the 1850s and surviving through two World Wars, Prater Garten has become a Berlin landmark. Enjoy a lively, and traditionally German atmosphere over a one-of-a-kind glass of prater beer and some wiener schnitzel.

This warm and welcoming atmosphere is just what you need after a long, cold day exploring Berlin. Alt Wein serves classic Austrian-Imperial-Royal cousin. Feel like a king while sinking your teeth into a traditional Veal Gulasch, or Tafelspitz and Kaiserschmarrn. With excellent food and a vast beer and wine list, you cannot go wrong dining at Alt Wien.

Enjoy fresh, seasonal food at Lode & Stijn. This modern restaurant sources their ingredients from regional suppliers. Try one of their mouth-watering deep fried Dutch beef Bitterballen. Not into meat? Don’t worry they have vegetarian and vegan options as well! Not only is their food delicious, but it looks beautiful as well.

Don’t leave Berlin without experiencing Coda, a dessert bar nestled in Berlin’s Neukölln neighborhood. This place serves fine-dining desserts alongside stellar cocktails. If you are craving a sweet and a creative drink, this is the place for you!

November in Berlin may not be the warmest, but the cold never gets in the way of a true ice cream lover. For those of you out there always screaming for ice cream, don’t miss Jones! Their ice creams and sorbets are made from scratch every day, and the flavors change with the season. For those of you who prefer something a little less cold, Jones has a delicious array of large, gooey cookies in eclectic flavors, like peanut butter & bacon. At Jones, there is a tasty treat to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth!

This bar in Berlin is famous for its’ fairytale inspired cocktails, atmosphere and decor, and sits directly across from the enchanting fountain of fairytales in the Volkspark Friedrichshain. From the caterpillar stretched out on the mushroom at the door, to the pop-up-book menus and white rabbits throughout the bar, this place will undoubtedly be a magical treat to remember for your time in Berlin. Just follow the white rabbit!

Paloma Bar is a well-loved ‘dive’ bar and nightclub, and like most of the best joints in Berlin, it isn’t an easy-find! Located above a grocery store, complete with a dance-floor and extension, as well as a panoramic view of the Kruezberg neighborhood below, this bar is a great place to add to your night. While you are here, also visit the Monarch Bar which is directly next door!

For the 1930’s lovers the Drayton Bar is a dream come true and not half as expensive as it looks! Drayton is stylish and classy, and like all great Berlin Bars it is tucked away, off of Behrenstrasse, and is well-known for it’s tasty fruit and syrup cocktails which complement its suave atmosphere.

If it is cocktails you’re after, Stagger Lee is not for the faint of heart. A saloon-style cocktail bar that has made a name for itself as one of the best bars in Berlin, Stagger Lee is known for their delicious old fashioned drinks served alongside rustic candles, wooden bar stools, an old grandfather clock and swinging saloon doors. Head to Stagger Lee to try some of the best cocktails in Berlin, and soak in some cozy Berlin fun.

Located in Wedding, Vagabund Brauerei is the first ever crowdfunded brewery in Europe. It boasts a wide array of home-brewed, and locally and internationally imported craft beers with a cozy and welcoming charm. This bar attracts people from all over who share a love of delicious and different ales, stouts, and IPAs, and it is well worth the visit while you are in Berlin.

If you are looking for a down-to-earth, buzzing and Berlin-cool bar, Cafe Luzia is your match. With its’ relaxed environment and run-down-apartment feel, this is the perfect place to have a good conversation and enjoy the more hipster side of Berlin nightlife.

Casual and fun, the Green door bar is known for requiring you to “buzz” in and enter through- you guessed it!- their Green door. Be ready to enjoy drinks tailored to your desires as the bar staff are well-versed in accommodating different tastes, so long as you manage to get in! We recommend you head in early to ensure yourself a spot as the Green Door fills up fast. For a bar with great atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else, try your luck and buzz up for drinks at the Green Door bar.

WHAT TO SEE

Museum Island

A 1999 addition to the UNESCO list of world Heritage sites, Museum Island boasts of having an exciting 5 museums to explore, and is rich in history and beautiful views. With cobblestone streets perfect for a picture-esq stroll or bike ride, this beautiful island is the perfect place to combine sightseeing and historical exploration while visiting Berlin.

The East Side Gallery is the next stop for cultural buffs, as it consists of modern age murals painted directly on remnants of the Berlin Wall. If you know anything about Berlin, you will have stumbled across many of these open-air paintings referenced world-wide, as they have come to represent the fall of communism and the end of the separation between East and West Germany by the Berlin Wall. A welcomed celebration of artistic freedom, this section of the Berlin Wall is a treat to visit!

One of the largest and oldest urban gardens in Germany, and a favorite for picnic lunches, is Tiergarten Park. Home to the Berlin Zoo as well as many famous monuments, ponds, and lakes, Tiergarten Park is perfect for exploring in the colorful autumn weather. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the famous Victory Column and Neuer See lake while you lose yourself in the sprawling nature of this gorgeous city park

If you are looking for a relaxing adventure while in Berlin, the Berlin-Dahlem Botanical Gardens and Museum may be just the place for you. With open-air areas as well as an arboretum that is 14-hectares, the gardens are full of exciting plants from all over the world, as well as beautiful pieces of art. As the gardens are about 40 minutes outside of the city, it is recommended that you leave yourself a good couple of hours to explore the natural world there before heading back.

Stroll through Kruezberg

Famous in pop culture and one of the best-known areas of Berlin, “X-Berg” was originally one of the poorest quarters of West Berlin and is now a main attraction when visiting the city. Home to the famous shopping street FriedrichstraBe as well as Check Point Charlie and the Jewish Museum, Kruezberg is an area bursting with history and modern culture, and is a must for all of Berlin’s visitors.
